PEKIN — Alta B. Putnam, 98, of Pekin, formerly of Potomac, passed away at 10:11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin.
Alta was born on Feb. 14, 1915, in Horse Cave, Ky., the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Davis) Welshire.
She married Roy Putnam on April 8, 1935, in Royal. He preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1996.
She is survived three daughters, Paula (Dale) Laumeier of Manito, Shirley (Jim) Keith of Greenville, N.C., and Phyllis (Michael) Koerner of Broadlands; one son, Fred (Betty) Putnam of Pandora, Ohio; sister-in-law, Berneice Pointer of Collison; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; one step granddaughter; one step great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one sister.
Alta spent most of her life as a homemaker and helped Roy with the farm. She later worked at the Oakwood Truck Stop and at the Gifford Nursing Home. She was a past member of Hope Church of Christ. Alta enjoyed sewing, quilting, canning, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family.
A celebration of Alta’s life will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Home, 400 N. Vermilion St., Potomac, with Pastor Gerry Weaver officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Kopmann Cemetery in Royal.
