David L. Spicer

DANVILLE — David L. Spicer, 81, of Covington, Ind., died at 1 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Provena USMC, Danville, Ill. He was born May 29, 1931, in Georgetown, Ill., the son of Lloyd Raymond and Ruth (Bush) Spicer.

He attended Georgetown schools and was a Marine veteran. He was employed at Lauhoff Grain for 35 years before retiring and farmed all of his life. He was a member of Covington Nazarene Church. He moved to Covington, Ind., in 1962 from Vermilion Grove, Ill.

David married Edna G. Howard May 16, 1952, at Kinston, N.C., and she survives. Also surviving is a son, Timothy (LaDonna) Spicer of Covington, Ind.; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; three sisters, Eleanor (Dan) Smith of Williamsport, Ind., Patsy Cherney of Covington, Ind., and Sally (John) Gallez of Westville, Ill.; four brothers, Danny (Darlene) Spicer of Indianapolis, Ronald (Darlene) Spicer of Wabash, Ind., Karrell (Donna) Spicer of New Baden, Ill., and Lloyd R. Spicer of Danville, Ill. His parents and a sister, Shirley Holfor, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Covington Nazarene Church, with services there at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013, with Pastor Richard Stadler officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 288 and the VFW. Shelby Funeral Home is assisting the family. Send condolences to the family:
