CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. —
Steven Lawrence Tanner, 65, of Crawfordsville, Ind., met his Maker on May 22, 2013, at home with his family by his side.
He was born in Danville, Ill., on June 25, 1947, to the late Robert and Earldeen Tanner.
He was raised by his late grandmother, Hazel Beamon, in the Danville area.
He is survived by his son, Joseph Matthew Tanner, of Crawfordsville; his caretaker and former wife, Rosemary Shelton Tanner of Crawfordsville; and “his children,” Jeanne Robbins of Orlando, Fla., Judith Kleine of Crawfordsville and Jerry Robbins of Lafayette, Ind. He also has nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
As the star wide receiver at Danville High School, Mr. Tanner broke many school records. He joined the Army as a helicopter medic and spent many tours in Vietnam. He moved to Crawfordsville in 1974.
Mr. Tanner amazingly survived a paralyzing aneurism three years ago and donated his body to Indiana University for medical research. A memorial service will be held in June.
