ROSSVILLE — Robert “Bob” Maurice Thomas, 77, of Rossville, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at Presence Covenant Hospital in Champaign.
Bob was born on July 20, 1936, in Danville, the son of Maurice G. and Mabel (Kelm) Thomas.
He is survived by one daughter; one son; one brother, Art (Julie) Thomas, of Ogden; and two special caregivers, Janey Mertz and Leona Marshal, both of Rossville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bob graduated from Rossville High School in 1954 and Eastern Illinois University in 1958 with his bachelor’s degree in education. He later earned his master’s degree in education and an advanced certificate.
Bob worked in industrial education and math for 13 years at Crestview Middle School in Paris and at District 118 from 1971 until he retired in 1992. After retirement, he worked around Rossville doing yard work.
He was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church. Bob loved bowling and bowled on several leagues. He also enjoyed yard work and reading.
A celebration of Bob’s life will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at Rossville United Methodist Church in Rossville. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Following the services, he will be laid to rest at the Rossville Cemetery. The family has entrusted the Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Home of Hoopeston to assist them honoring Bob’s life.
