James LeRoy Maged, 70, of Champaign and formerly of Danville, passed away at 11:08 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Helia Healthcare in Champaign.
He was born Dec. 15, 1942, in Detroit, Mich., a son of Alexander Romulas Aloysius and Julia Violet Garowski Maged.
He is survived by his children, Michael (Karen) Maged of Mahomet, Tony (Kristi) Maged of Rossville, Erik (Christine) Vaughn of Lafayette, Ind., and Lindy (Brian) Vecco of Alverado, Texas; a sister, Carole Macro in Michigan; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Jim graduated from Schlarman High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army with the Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol, 75th Airborne Ranger Regiment, as a Morse Code operator and demolitionist.
He worked for the C&EI Railroad as a conductor and brakeman. He retired in 1991 with CSX Railroad.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Graveside services and burial will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Danville National Cemetery, with the Very Rev. Canon John J. Flattery officiating. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Post 210.
