John Thomas Haworth, 94, of Danville, died at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at the Danville VA Illiana Health Care System.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 2, at the VA Protestant Chapel in Danville with Raymie Gordon officiating. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the VA Chapel. Burial will be in Danville National Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 210.
John was born July 3, 1918, in Humrick to George and Coy (Coonce) Haworth.
He attended Humrick, Liberty, and Cayuga schools before enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. John worked at the Danville VA Medical Center in the kitchen and housekeeping departments for many years.
He loved to watch the Chicago Cubs play, was an avid poker and buck euchre player, and he loved to sing. John brought laughter to people at the Freedom House.
John is survived by a daughter, Connie Arnett of New Albany, Ind.; grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Grant of Danville, Adam (Tiffany) Semonick of Hegeler and Brandi Semonick of Urbana; great-grandchildren, Brad Lee, Samantha Grant, Brandon Grant, DJ Semonick and Chloe Semonick; two great-great-grandchildren, Emily and Nevaeh; and a special friend, Kim Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a daughter.
