INDIANOLA — Creola Ruth Kuyrkendall, 87, of Indianola, passed away at 12:54 a.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville.
She was born on April 27, 1926, the daughter of Volen and Bracie (Arnett) Netherton in Tompkinsville, Ky. On Feb. 28, 1946, Creola was united in marriage to Harry Kuyrkendall in Georgetown until his passing on Feb. 4, 2000.
She will be missed by: her daughter, Beverly (John) Spesard of Chrisman; her grandchildren, Jim (Casey) Spesard of Chrisman and Joe (Cassidy) Spesard of Ridge Farm; her step grandson, Steve (Vicky) Spesard of Pittsboro, Ind.; her great-grandchildren, Sydney, Addison, Hayden and Harper Spesard; her step great-grandchildren, Haley, Ashley and Clint Spesard; her brother, Lloyd (Betty) Netherton of Atlanta, Ga.; and her sisters, Thelma Schabowski of Westville and Ina (Don) Olds of Plant City, Fla.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her brother-in-law, George Schabowski; and her niece, Julie Netherton.
Creola enjoyed being a farm wife and making a home for her family. She was a member of the Liberty Church and attended Indianola United Methodist Church. She was a Cubs fan as well as an Illini basketball fan. She also enjoyed playing bingo, singing hymns and attending all the activities at Gardenview Manor, where she resided the last few years. She enjoyed being with her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Creola’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Sunset’s Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown, with George Desmond and David Almy officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, Indianola.
