Roy A. Woodyard

DANVILLE — Roy A. Woodyard, 93, of Danville passed away at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Vermilion Manor Nursing Home.

Roy was born Aug. 28, 1919, to John and Sarah (Kegley) Woodyard in Ashmore. Roy was previously married to Tina Melvin and later Charlene Hollingsworth before he met Opal Goodpastor, whom he married on June 17, 1988, in Danville. They remained together until his death.

Surviving family includes his son, Larry Woodyard of Hobart, Ind.; stepson, John Snyder of Danville; daughters, Sharon (Harold) Titus of Cumming, Ga., and Rita (Ray) Yates of Dawnsonville, Ga.; stepdaughters, Denna (Isaac) Wyatt and Donna Crane, both of Danville; grandchildren, Sarah Bilyeu, Melody Woodyard, Erica McCormic, Lorri Nelson, Shaun Titus, Shane Baugh, Jamie Sexton, Dawn Kimbarl and Justin Yates; step-grandchildren, Christopher, Jon-athon, Harley and Shelby Wyatt, Justin Shaw and Jessica Elmendorff; and three brothers, Leo, Willis and Ray Woodyard. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Cecil; and sisters, Ruby, Thelma and Hazel.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Vermilion Manor Nursing Home for the years of care and compassion they showed toward Roy.

Roy served his country with pride during WWII as a member of United States Army, where he was stationed in the Pacific. Upon returning home, he found work as a farmer. Roy will be remembered by his family as a kind man who enjoyed spending time with others.

A private celebration of Roy’s life will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville with Pastor Raymie Gordon officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, where military honors will be performed by the American Legion Post 51. Visitation will be an hour prior from 1-2 p.m. Friday.

Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home, Danville, is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made in Roy’s name to Vermilion Manor Nursing Home. Condolences may be left at
