Margaret 'Maggie' Diskin

RANKIN — Margaret “Maggie” Diskin, 82, of Rankin, passed away at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at her home.

Maggie was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Anchor, Ill., the daughter of Glen S. and Blossom (Hemphill) Olson.

She married Cyril “Cy” Diskin on Nov. 4, 1950, in Penfield. He preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 2012.

She is survived by one son, Brian “Sam” (Linda) Diskin of Fithian; one daughter, Vanessa (Don) Skinner of Rankin; four grandchildren, Melissa (Bill) Egolf and Shane (Rebecca) Diskin, both of Rankin, Terra (Eddie) Mullins of Urbana and Cyril W. Diskin of Fithian; five great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Cooper Egolf, Kelsee Bell, Olivia and Fletcher Diskin; two brothers, Carl W. and Donald E. Olson; and three sisters, Glenna Diskin, Bonnie Wolfe and Linda Zimmerman.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Maggie attended Rankin High School. She was employed for 36 years at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul in the food service division until her retirement in 1992.

Maggie was very active in community affairs. She belonged to the Junior Woman’s Club, Rankin Community Council, the Senior Woman’s Club, Rankin Lions Club, Rankin Centennial Committee, church groups and she served six years on the school board.

The most satisfying project she worked on was the Veteran’s War Memorial in Rankin.

Her many interests included volunteering, helping others, flowers and movies.

The most special interest was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Maggie’s life will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, at Grace Lutheran Church, 102 S. Johnson St., Rankin, with Pastor Jennifer Hartweg-Brown officiating. Burial will follow the service in Rankin Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Knapp Funeral Home, 130 N. Main St., Rankin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Maggie’s name to the Rankin Lions Club or the Grace Lutheran Church.

The family has entrusted Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Home of Hoopeston to assist them and to honor Maggie’s life.
