VEEDERSBURG, Ind. —
T.J. Key, 74, of Veedersburg passed away at 7:30 p.m. CDT Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign, Ill.
T.J. was born July 3, 1938, in Austin, Ky., the son of Louie F. and Annie Marie (Woods) Key. He married his bride of 57 years, Willie Mae Hurd, on April 12, 1956, in Glasgow, Ky.
Surviving family include his wife, Willie Mae Key of Veedersburg; daughter, Peggy Jo Key of Allerton, Ill.; son, Michael (Kimberly) Key of Veedersburg; two brothers, G.C. Key of Lamb, Ky.; and Ernest (Jane) Key of Lafayette; sister, Gloria Walters of Allerton; four grandchildren, Bobbi Jo Reed, Jessica Cole Bowman, Kayla Renae Key and Stephen James Key; five great-grandchildren, Maranda Lynn Reed, Russell James Reed, Kendra Leanne Amos, Hunter James Key and Kaysen Dwayne Amos.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Delzie Fulton; and a brother, William Franklin Key.
T.J. and Willie had lived in Allerton for 40 years, where he was employed at Allerton Supply for 35 years. They moved to Veedersburg in 1997 and he was employed at Masterguard for seven years.
He was a musician and enjoyed singing and playing his guitar. He enjoyed gardening and was able to work on almost anything, being known as a “Jack of all trades.”
Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. EDT Monday, June 17, 2013, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Timothy Key officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday and continue until the time of service at 11. Following the service, everyone is welcome to join the family for ice cream (T.J.’s favorite) at his home.
