DANVILLE — Sandra Lee “Aunt Sankey” Phillips, 64, passed this life at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.
Sankey, the third child of William and Elnora Wright Phillips, was born Jan. 3, 1949, in Danville.
She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Collett Street Church of Christ and recently united with New Life Church of Faith.
Sankey was employed at General Motors and later transitioned and retired from Teepak. After her retirement, she worked for various nursing homes as a certified nursing assistant.
She worked tirelessly to provide for her family and would give her last to anyone. Sankey was a great listener and friend. She met no strangers and left an impact on all she met.
Sankey enjoyed attending church, traditional gospel music, reading her Bible, traveling, going out to eat and watching all the television court shows. Sankey loved making people laugh and having a good time. She was a member of the Annual Christian Women’s Retreat.
Sandra leaves to cherish her beloved memory: three children, Yolanda (Ivan) Fortier, Sabrina (Mark) Brown and Demond (Candace) Miles; eight grandchildren, Steven, Tanya, Tylan, Chanell, Davion, Damario, Mia, Zakiya; a sister, Margaret (Robert) Jones; a brother, William (Diane) Phillips; two aunts, Ruby Phillips and Virgina (William) Phelps; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and her parents.
A celebration of life will commence at noon Tuesday, June 18, at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave., Danville. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the time of the service, Pastor Thomas W. Miller officiating. Interment: Sunset Memorial Park. A public viewing will commence from 1-5 p.m. Monday, June 17, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., Danville.
