Thomas “Tom” Eugene Claypool, 75, went to heaven on April 11, 2013.
He was born June 1, 1937, to Richard Henry Claypool and Myrtle Ellen (Huffman) Claypool at Homewood Farm in Ross-ville. He was the fourth of five children, including Thelma Ross, James Claypool, Donald Claypool and Barbra Pichon.
Tom graduated from Rossville High School in 1955 and received a Bachelor of Arts in education from Eastern Illinois University in 1965.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Priscilla May (Poole) Claypool. Over the years they have lived in Danville, Beloit, Wis., Stevensville, Mich., St. Joseph, Mich., Arden, N.C., Marietta, Ga., Plano, Texas, and Glendale, Ariz., before settling in Peoria, Ariz.
Tom was baptized Jan. 21, 1951, at Alvin Illinois Christian Church along with his sister Barb and brother Don. He was a member of the Palmcroft Baptist Church since 1984. His hobbies included reading, bridge, puzzles, wood working, golf, pool and cooking for his family.
Tom worked as a mechanical engineer for 38 years, holding positions including plant manager, chief engineer and vice president of operations before retiring in 2002.
Tom was survived by his son, Andy Claypool; daughter Christine Johnson and her husband, Bill; and daughter Marlene West and her husband, Adam. Tom also is survived by his six grandchildren, Dillon, Cassie, Jennifer, Jake, Hayden and Emma.
Tom passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, at Palmcroft Baptist Church, Building 4, Student Center Brick Coffee House, in Phoenix, Ariz.
