Beverly J. Long

Beverly J. Long, 76, of Danville, passed away March 19, 2010, at her home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Beverly was born April 28, 1933, the daughter of Cecil and Berneice Tallman.

She grew up in the Fountain County, Ind., area, graduating from Kingman High School in 1951. Beverly moved to Danville to attend St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, graduating in 1955 as a registered nurse. During her nursing career, she worked for Dr. Everett Laury’s private practice, St. Elizabeth Hospital and Americana Nursing Home in Danville.

She married Charles E. Long on Feb. 13, 1957. He survives along with their two sons, Jeffrey (Debbie) Long of Hoopeston and Matthew (Amanda) Long of Danville; three daughters, Charlene (Charles) Mornout, Melanie (Richard) Wrensch and Stephanie (Dan) Sloan of Danville; and 10 grandchildren, Raymond (Melissa), Zachary (Bethany), Elizabeth, Song (Yoevita) and Teresa Wrensch, Justin and Erin Mornout, Robert and Seth Sloan and Maci Long.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one niece and one great-nephew.

She was very involved in her children’s lives participating in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTA, DHS Music Boosters, as well as being active in Altrusa, Nurses’ Alumni Association, DAR and her church.

Beverly and her husband bought Anker Florist from the Zepplin family in 1985, moving it from its original location at the corner of Seminary and Jackson to its current

location on Hazel Street. She worked to make it one of the leading florists in the Vermilion County area until her illness prevented her from continuing. The shop still is owned by her husband and operated by her daughter.

Beverly was a member of Second Church of Christ in Danville her entire married life and was active with the Missions Ministry Team. She had a sincere passion for the people of Haiti and traveled there on numerous mission trips, often encouraging friends and church family to travel with her. Three of her children and one niece had the honor of traveling with her, and one grandchild has made four different trips because of Beverly’s influence and love for the Haitian people.
