Marjorie Egger

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Marjorie Egger, 89, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away peacefully near midnight on Monday, July 8, 2013, in her retirement community.

Marjorie was born on June 7, 1924, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Paul Peter and Sybilla (Brehl) Boehm.

She married George W. Egger on June 22, 1946, at Holy Cross Church, Columbus, Ohio, officiated by George’s cousin, the Rev. Linus Dury.

She is survived by two sons and five daughters, Lynne (Bruce) Terry of Sonora, Calif., Dr. Marlene J. (Larry Stewart) Egger of Salt Lake City, Utah, George L. (Nancy) Egger of Washington, Ill., Leigh A. Egger of Silvis, Ill., Adriene J. Egger of Davenport, Paul R. Egger of Lenexa, Kan., and Ardyce M. (Patrick) Clements of Tampa, Fla.; one sister, Teresa Rose Coyle, of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren, Adam Terry of Columbia, Calif., Melissa and Sarah Egger of Lenexa, Kan., and Katelin, Jackson and Garrett Clements of Tampa, Fla.; and a very special family, including many beloved nieces and nephews and many outstanding friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Peter and Sybilla (Brehl) Boehm; her husband, George W. Egger; her youngest daughter, Andrea A. Egger; her brother, Paul Boehm; and her brother, Don Boehm.

Marjorie was baptized Catholic in 1924 and was a lifetime member of the Roman Catholic Church, a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Danville and a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Marjorie graduated in 1942 from St. Mary’s High School, Columbus, Ohio.

Marjorie loved to crochet. She frequently made blankets, covers for boxes of Kleenex and rolls of toilet paper. Her grandsons and granddaughters frequently wrap themselves up in one of her crocheted blankets while watching TV.

Marjorie loved to sing and was a member of the church choir in Palatine for many years. She was a Eucharistic minister for the church and frequently brought communion to people. In the years that Marjorie and George lived in Palatine, they both taught religious classes in their home for grade school-aged children. With eight children, she made each and every birthday special by making a decorative children’s birthday cake.

A Mass of Christian burial for Marjorie Egger will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 1303 N. Walnut St., Danville, with Father Greg Nelson officiating. A prayer service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 14, with visitation to follow from 2-5 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, at 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville. Per Marjorie’s wishes, she will be buried, which will follow the Mass on Monday. She will be laid to rest in Danville National Cemetery on Monday.
