Clara Elizabeth Bernardi, 69, of Danville, died at 6:10 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Newman Rehabilitation and Health Care Center of Newman.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville, with Jan Reeder officiating. Visitation: 3-6 p.m. Tuesday at Pape’s. Burial: Danville National Cemetery.
Clara was born Jan. 6, 1944, in Danville, daughter of Russell and Mabel Staggs Fortner, who preceded her in death along with a younger sister, Mira Fortner.
She attended Collett Grade School. She had worked for St. Elizabeth Hospital as a certified nursing assistant and in home care for many years. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.
Clara married Joseph Donald Bernardi Sr. on May 25, 1963, at St. Patrick Church by the Rev. Father Paul Kinder. They celebrated 50 years together this past May.
Survivors include her husband, Donald; five children, Elizabeth Leitzen of Las Vegas, Frank R. of Danville, Joseph Jr. (Isabel) of Hollywood, Fla., Daniel P. (Cindy) of Danville and David R. (Denise) of Atlanta; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers/sisters, Paul (Fern) Fortner, Carl (Gayle deceased) Fortner, Orville (Jenann) Fortner, Hazel (Jay) Barr, Melody Fortner, Meda (Dennis) Winslow, Mona (Matt) Beckelhymer; and many nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed playing bingo and cards with family and friends and spending time with her dachshunds. She will be missed by all.
