Michael Eugene Rodman

DANVILLE — Michael Eugene Rodman, 65, of Danville, went to be with the Lord at 5:14 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, after a short stay at the VA hospital in Danville.

Michael was born to Edgar Eugene Rodman and Elsie Pauline Douglas-McMillan on June 29, 1947, in Danville.

He attended Northeast Grade School and Danville High School before becoming a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and serving during the Vietnam era. After serving his country faithfully, he went on to work at Fairhall Elevator before eventually retiring from CSX Railroad after 30 years as a locomotive engineer.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Edgar, in 1963; his step-father, William C. Elliott in 1980; his sister, Paula J. Jarvis in 1996; and his mother, Elsie Peters (Douglas-McMillan) in 2012.

He married Carolyn Lou Rodman of Danville in 1973. She survives. He was a loving father of five children, all whom survive, Stephan R. Schulz (Patti) of Bloomington, Ill., Michael N. Schulz of Avon Ind., Michaeleen Sivia of Bethalto, Ill., Ronald A. Schulz (Christina) of Stanford, Ill., and Darren E. Rodman of Arcola, Ill. He is also survived by six siblings, Michael L. Rodman (Anne) of Charlotte, N.C., Theresa (Terri) K. Dawes (Wayne) of Catlin, Steven D. Rodman (Susan) of Danville, Rebecca L. Dunnigan (Darrell) of Champaign, Tami J. Avila of Champaign, and William Bradley Elliott (Grace) of Belleville, Ill. Other survivors include 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Redskins and Fighting Illini fan, and was passionate about motorsports, especially NASCAR. His other hobbies included target shooting and golf, and he enjoyed riding his Harley with a long list of friends.

The family invites friends and family to an Open House gathering to celebrate Michael’s life 5:30-7 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Rodman Woodworks, 3821 N. Vermilion St., Danville. A private memorial service will be arranged for the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Michael Rodman Military Rites Fund, American Legion Post 210, 201 Prospect, Danville, IL 61832, to assist in honoring our veterans.
