Cassandra “Sandy” L. Gay, 73, of Tilton, passed away at 1:55 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Sandy was born Feb. 3, 1940, in Danville, the daughter of Lloyd A. and Louise E. (Cloe) Watrous.
She married Jim Gay on July 11, 1977, in Kansas City, Mo. He survives.
She also is survived by two daughters, Debra A. Wheeler of Danville and Michelle “Shelly” (Brian) Makowski of Oakwood; two sons, Kenton “Kenny” D. Bowling and Shannon E. (Heather) Bowling, both of Danville; one brother, Lloyd A. (Ann) Watrous of Buffalo Gap, Texas; special cousin, Sharon Woods of Grandbury, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, William Robert Bowling Jr. and Corbin William Bowling; infant grandson; and two brothers, Larry Watrous and James Watrous.
Sandy worked for the Department of Children and Family Services and CRIS Senior Services for several years, until she retired in 1998.
She enjoyed going to the Easter services at the Civic Center every year. She also enjoyed crocheting, texting on her cell phone, playing Skip-Bo with her friends on Sundays and her two dogs, Gizmo and Peppy. Spending time with her family was her greatest enjoyment. She was a loving and devoted mom and grandma.
A celebration of Sandy’s life will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, at Second Church of Christ in Danville, with Drew Mentzer officiating. Visitation will be 11-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Carle Hospice.
