SANDWICH — Richard (Rich) Arthur Rice, 70, formerly of Danville, died in his Sandwich, Ill., home on June 17, 2013, of cancer.

Rich was born in 1943, the son of Russel and Dorothy (Schlenkert) Rice. Rich married Judith (Lickfeldt) in 1964.

Rich graduated Bloomfield Hills High School, and attended the University of Detroit. He served in the U.S. Navy on the carrier U.S.S. Essex and on the destroyer U.S.S. Warrington.

He worked more than 30 years in banking and finance, real estate five years, and 12 years for the Oswego, Ill., Community School District.

Rich was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church. He was an officer in the Danville Elks Lodge, Danville Rotary and was elected to a six-year term as Park District Commissioner for the Sandwich Park District.

He is survived by his wife, three children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A celebration of Rich’s life is planned on Saturday, July 6, at noon, at the Federated Church, Sandwich.
