Helen L. Hackman, 86, of Danville, passed away at 5:08 a.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013, at her home in Danville.
She was born March 7, 1927, to Ray O. and Mable (Curtis) Steele in Danville.
Helen married Robert Hackman on Nov. 23, 1946, in Covington, Ind. He survives.
Other survivors include sons Daniel Hackman of Danville and David Hackman of Ellenton, Fla.; grandchildren, Tricia Dyal of Jacksonville, N.C., Robert Hackman of Danville, Colten Hackman of Oakwood, Marcus Hackman of Catlin and Nickolas Hackman of Danville; and seven great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her son Douglas Hackman; her parents; stepmother, Helen (Middlemas) Steele; and brother, Ray G. Steele.
A 1945 graduate of Danville High School, Helen worked as a pre-school teacher and homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Danville and was active in the Christian Women’s Association. Helen enjoyed interior decorating, looking after her flower garden and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen will be missed by her two dogs, Lily and Lucy.
Her family would like to extend a special thanks to Carle Hospice for the care they provided to Helen.
A memorial service for Helen will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, May 10, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville, with the Rev. Jimmy Hopper officiating. Burial will be at Danville National Cemetery. A visitation will be held an hour prior from 9-10 a.m. Friday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Helen’s name to Hospice Hearts Sanctuary, P.O. Box 181, Penfield, IL 61862.
