GESSIE, Ind. — Audrey Lucile (Lindley) Wolter of Gessie, Ind., died at 3:30 a.m. EDT Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Waters of Covington.

She was born in Georgetown, Ill., on Oct. 12, 1917, the daughter of Samuel Z. and Othelia (Gustafson) Lindley. She graduated from Georgetown High School in 1935.

She married William Wolter on Aug. 9, 1952, in Danville, Ill.

Audrey graduated from the Utterback Business College. She was employed at the Modern Machine Shop as a bookkeeper for 17 years before her marriage, and later worked alongside her husband, Bill, on their farm. She was a member of the Gessie United Methodist Church, the Perrysville Homemakers and the Farm Bureau.

She was a hard-working farm wife and a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed working on the farm and raising livestock with her husband. She loved spending time with her family.

After retirement, Audrey and Bill spent many winters at San Juan Gardens, Texas. Both she and her husband enjoyed raising horses, and she was still riding in her late 80s. She enjoyed travel and had visited all 50 states. She loved to crochet and was known for her delicious homemade fruit pies.

She was a good mother to her daughter, Phyllis (Kenny) Wilson of Perrysville, Ind.; and a good grandmother to her three grandchildren, Cheryl (Dan) Bridge, Carol (Keith) Dilts and Michael (Jodie Steelman) Wilson, all of Perrysville. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Emily and Samuel Bridge, Rachel and Ethan Dilts, and Anne and Alison Wilson; a niece, Jeanne (Norman) Rademacher of Gifford, Ill.; three nephews, Dean (Jane) Piatt of Armstrong, Ill., John (Brenda) Bush of Lebanon, Ind., and Dan (Karen) Bush of Perrysville. Her husband, her parents, and sister, Ruth Piatt, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. EDT Wednesday, May 1, at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington, Ind., with Pastor Jason DEan officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. EDT Tuesday, April 30. Memorials may be given to Gessie United Methodist Church or Vermillion County 4-H with envelopes available at Shelby Funeral Home.
