CATLIN — Jeane L. Songer, 89, of Catlin, died at 7:54 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at her home.
Jeane was born March 16, 1924, in Letcher, S.D., to Will and Grace Lykins Jamison.
She married Robert Lee Songer on Oct. 7, 1943, in the chapel at Chandler Air Force Base, Ariz. He survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Janet L. Songer of Ottawa and Bobbee (Gregg) Hawkins of Catlin; special sister-in-law, Margaret Jamison of Catlin; eight grandchildren, Todd (Rachel) Taylor of Cincinnati, Ohio, Heather (Lance) Reason of Dixon, Jennifer (Glenn) Joseph of West Bloomfield, Mich., Jami Dunn Cannell of Rock Falls, Matthew S. Depratt of Catlin, Gracie (Brooks) Ruyle of Downers Grove, Haley Hawkins of LeRoy and Jesse (Abbey) Hawkins of Leroy; seven great-grandchildren, Katie Reason, Mackenzie and Nicholas Joseph, Andrew Jamison Cannell, Will Songer Ruyle, Grayson Robert Ruyle and Zoe Jeane Ruyle; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Maryann Songer Taylor; five brothers, Harlan, Byron, John, Francis “Speed” and Herman Jamison; four sisters, Hazel, Gretchen, Rose and Ann; and parents.
Jeane faithfully served her church and community, holding many offices at the Catlin United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She volunteered at Lakeview Hospital. Jeane was active in the Girl Scouts, the 4-H clubs and most activities her daughters pursued. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed playing golf and was a wonderful cook, baking the best pies you’ve ever tasted.
Funeral services: noon Saturday at Catlin United Methodist Church, with Pastor Nancy Wilson officiating. Burial in: OakRidge Cemetery, Catlin. Visitation: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Catlin United Methodist Church.
