Dale D. Nabors

CHAMPAIGN — Dale D. Nabors, 77, of Champaign, died at 7 p.m. on Sept. 2, 2013, at home, with family at his bedside after a 10-month battle with cancer.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West in Savoy. The Rev. Wes Wilkey will officiate. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the Morgan Memorial Home.

Dale was born March 22, 1936, in Danville. He was the son of William and Lois (Morgan) Nabors.

He married Patsy Ann Makemson on Aug. 4, 1957, in Danville.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Ann Nabors; three children, Jill Ann and her husband, Jeff Arnold, of Temple, Texas, Julie Lynn and her husband, Bob Scott, of Washington, Ill., and Jennifer Kay and her husband, Mike Young, of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Morgan Hill and her husband, Shawn, of Temple, Texas, Steven Arnold and his wife, Veronica, of Georgetown, Texas, Ethan Young in the U.S. Navy in Seattle, and Brian and Kevin Scott of Washington, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Jensen Hill of Temple, Texas. Also surviving is brother Bob Nabors and his wife, Judy, from Crawfordsville, Ind.

Dale attended Danville public schools and graduated from Danville High School in 1954. He received a Bachelor of Science degree and a master’s degree in education from Indiana State University. He received his Doctor of Education degree in education administration in 1975. Dale dedicated his professional life to teaching and spent 35 years in public education, serving as history teacher, counselor, principal and superintendent. He was school superintendent at Donovan, Girard and Galena, where he retired in 1993. During his career, Dale served on several state educational committees and groups.

Dale was an active and prominent member of Faith United Methodist Church in Champaign since 1993. Dale enjoyed golf and historical readings. Mostly, he enjoyed being at home with his wife of 57 years and spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Discovery Class at Faith United Methodist Church. The family is grateful for the staff at the Carle Clinic Cancer Center and the care given by Carle Hospice.
