Emma Belle Adwell, 85, of Rossville, passed away at 5:56 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at her home.
She was born Sept. 13, 1927, in Temple Hill, Ky., the daughter of Thomas W. and Wilbur Jenny (Payne) Biggers.
She married Roy L. Adwell on Dec. 5, 1946, in Temple Hill, Ky. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Cathy Phegley of Rossville; one son, Tom (Tari) Adwell of Rossville; five grandchildren, Tommy (Christine Warner) Adwell, Scott (Kristee) Adwell and Jimmy (Katie Anderson) Adwell, all of New Jersey, Jennifer (Chris) Danner of Hoopeston and Tabitha (Jerome Allison) Powell of Rossville; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ava, Dylan, Skylar, Olivia and Mason; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Sue Burks and Libby Aspley.
Emma retired as a factory worker and later worked in antique shops. She served on the Committee for First Veterans Monument. Emma loved her dog Sadie, who was her buddy and protector. She also enjoyed working word search puzzles and spending time with her family.
Per her wishes, she will be cremated and a visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 3, at Rossville Church of Christ, 514 E. Attica St., Rossville. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with Pastor Kevin Purdy officiating. No burial will be held.
