Albert Strong Jr., 87, of Danville, passed away at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Palliative Care Unit at the Danville Veterans Affairs hospital.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams, Danville, with Chaplain James Williams officiating. Visitation will be 3:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, SEpt. 3, at Pape’s.

Albert was born July 3, 1926, in Danville to Albert and Adleen Montgomery Strong.
Albert served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and Korea. He later became a sergeant with the Danville Police Department, spending 25 years on the force. After retiring from the police department, he worked another 18 years for the Danville Va. police.
Albert married Beulah Holycross on Sept. 21, 1947, in Danville, and she preceded him on Oct. 2, 1996.
Survivors include three children, Susan Jean Strong of Fithian, Joyce Ann Strong of Danville, and John Albert Strong of Danville; three grandchildren, Eric (Stacy) Day of Indianapolis, Stephen (Paula) Day of Indianapolis, and Brianna Kay Shutes of Danville; four great-grandchildren, Austin, Alyssa, Xavier and Keira; brother-in-law, Thomas (Pat) Holycross; sister-in-law, Carol Hicks; and special niece, Vikki Hicks.
He was preceded by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Judith Day, in 2010; a daughter-in-law, Karen Eicher Strong, in 1995.
Albert was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed traveling to Florida, was a past commander in the VFW and will be missed by his Steak ‘n Shake coffee group.
The family would like to extend many thanks to the Palliative Care Unit at the VA for the wonderful care that was given to Albert.
