MESA, Ariz. — Dean G. Hughes, 81, born in Gessie, Ind., passed away at 10:45 a.m. MDT Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Hospice in Mesa, Ariz.
He was born Jan. 24, 1932, in Gessie, Ind., the son of Glenn H. and Bernice Kell Hughes.
He married Norma J. Carrigan on July 27, 1956, at the Methodist Church on Main Street in Danville, Ill. She survives.
Other survivors include his daughters, Debbie Dowlen of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Jessica “Jai” Hughes of Tucson, Ariz.; son, Wade Hughes of Chino Valley, Ariz.; and two granddaughters, Robin Hardcastle of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Britt Moore of Madisonville, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bonnie Hughes of Lebanon, Ind.
After spending three and a half years in the Air Force, Dean began working for General Electric. He became the plant facility manager at the General Electric Plant in Madisonville, Ky., from 1970 to 1992. He served as the president of Madisonville Rotary Club and was very active in community projects. He was involved in the creation of the Madisonville Retail Association as owner of Cole’s Office Outfitters and Kwik Kleen Kleaners in Madisonville, Ky. He spent his retirement with his wife traveling all across the United States in their RV.
There will be no funeral services, but the family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278.
