RIDGE FARM —
David E. Gilroy, 66, of Ridge Farm, passed away at 4:40 p.m. Friday, March 30, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He had been ill for one month.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Violet (Hewitt) Gilroy and Paul Gilroy of Sidell.
Family surviving: wife, Linda Gilroy of Ridge Farm; children, Chris Gilroy of Ridge Farm, Tammy (Mark) Belansky of Danville, and Becky (Mark) Shields of Westville; siblings Sandy Thornton of Ogden, Anita Schmidt of Tilton, Elaine (Kevin) George of Veedersburg, Charles Gilroy of Sidell, and Janice Wade of Westville; grandchildren, Trevis Liggett of Ridge Farm and Ian Gilroy of Westville.
David was born March 1, 1947, and graduated from Jamaica High School in 1965. He married Linda Champion in 1966.
He worked for 22 years at Danville Bearing and Supply, and then 17 years at Heatcraft.
David enjoyed working with his hands in the garage, yard and garden. He loved antique cars, movies, television and old country music. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his family and friends and was known for telling an unexpected joke or two that would follow with his unmistakable laugh.
He was a beloved member of the Pleasant Mound Church of Christ.
A celebration of his life will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Pleasant Mound Church of Christ, west of Georgetown, with Paul Kent officiating. Food will be provided by the church followed by a devotional.
