Frances L. Mitchell

DANVILLE — Frances L. Mitchell, 87, of Danville, passed away at 1:25 a.m. EDT Thursday, March 28, 2013, at The Waters in Covington, Ind.

Frances was born on Oct. 3, 1925, in Danville, a coal miner’s daughter, to John Winfield and Ruth Ann Holden Scott.

She married Claude Truman Mitchell on Feb. 2, 1946, and became a coal miner’s wife. He preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1983.

Survivors include her sons, Jeff (Julie) Mitchell of Sherman, Alan (Faith) Mitchell of Perrysville, Ind., and Todd (Paula) Mitchell of Fithian; her beloved grandchildren, Jeffrey in Canada, Shon of Seattle, Wash., Krista of Belleville, Amie (Matt) Shank of Baltimore, Md., Andy in Wyoming, Travis in the Navy and Tara and Chelsi Haga of Fithian; one brother, John W. Scott (Norma) of Rochester.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a very special friend, Wilbur Bonebrake.

Frances attended Oakwood Township High School and graduated in 1943. She spent many years on staff at Lakeview Hospital, first in the accounting department and in a short time became executive secretary to the hospital administrator. She continued this position over a period of 30-plus years, with some time lapses raising children, etc. During these years she served five continuous hospital administrators.

Frances was a member of Batestown United Methodist Church, which was such a beloved church family. She carried on the tradition of her coal mining family and became an associate member of the United Mine Workers of America local union.

Funeral services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Robison Chapel in Catlin. The Rev. Patti Wise will officiate. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Danville. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at Robison Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her beloved church, Batestown United Methodist.
