Martha Pearl Chase, 84, of Danville, died at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, at Central Christian Church, 1101 N. Vermilion St. in Danville, with pastors Hank and Deann Anderson officiating. Family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m. at the church.
Martha was born on March 22, 1929, in Normal, to Earl and Edith (Cannon) Lawhun.
She attended Normal grade school and high school, graduating and moving on to attend Danville Area Community College where she earned her licensed practical nurse certification. Martha worked for several years at Provena, but her true calling was at home, taking care of her husband, children and grandchildren.
Martha was a member of Central Christian Church where she was an elder emeritus, member of Christian Women’s Fellowship, the coed class, and for years was a volunteer in the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and the PTA.
Martha married Burton Chase on May 7, 1949, in Peoria; he preceded her in death in 2001.
Survivors include their six children, Catherine (Gene) Owen of Danville, Christine Dawdy of Brighton, Karen Allen of Bismarck, Kenneth (Chris) Chase of Champaign, Raymond (Elizabeth) Chase of Wheaton and Mark (Toni) Chase of Danville; 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren on the way.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, Sarah Freeman and Marie Mouser; her brother, Paul Lawhun; and two sons-in-law, Vaughn Dawdy and Tom Allen.
