Jeffrey “Levi” McTagertt

NEWTOWN, Ind. — Jeffrey “Levi” McTagertt, 20, of 2304 East State Road 55, died from injuries sustained in a one-car accident early Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, on Division Road in Fountain County. He was born at Camp Lejeune, N.C., on April 30, 1986, the son of Jeff A. and Brenda Carey McTagertt of Newtown, who survive.

Levi graduated from Fountain Central High School with the class of 2004 and had attended Indiana State University and Ivy Tech State College. He was employed by Carey Steel in Lafayette as an ironworker and just recently had been accepted as an apprentice with Ironworkers Local 379. A member of the Newtown Community Church, he enjoyed playing guitar, motorcycles, playing pool and hunting, was an accomplished artist and a very excited “father to be.”

Surviving with his parents are a brother, Bryce Allen McTagertt, a student at Fountain Central High School; his fiancée, Chastin Minick of Veedersburg; grandparents Don and Loretta McTagertt, Kay Carey and Phil Slaughterbeck, all of Lafayette; and great-grandparents Louise Albertson of Huntingburg and Duane Carey of Romney.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Evan McTagertt, who also tragically died in a single-vehicle accident, March 5, 2004; grandparent Ronald Carey; great-grandparents Chuck and Norma Smith, Howard and Ruby McTagertt, Violet Carey and Frank Albertson.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. EST Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at Family & Friends Funeral Home of Wingate with Pastor Mike Parks officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Romney. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. EST Saturday, Feb. 10, at the funeral home which is at 9700 North State Road 55, Wingate. The family strongly suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be best directed to a trust established for the benefit of Levi and Chastin’s baby which is due to be born in April. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

On-line condolences to familyandfriends@tds.net.
