Mary Rhae McBride, 83, of Rossville, died at 4:25 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, at the home of her daughter in Bartelso, Ill.
Born June 24, 1923, at Rossville, she was the daughter of Ray F. and Lutie (Woolverton) Rice. She married Russell H. “Barney” McBride on May 22, 1943, at Halls, Tenn. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1994.
She is survived by one daughter, Rustie Rhae (William) Harrell of Bartelso, Ill.; one son, Scott Rice (Sharon) McBride of Gladstone, Mo.; six grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth McBride of Kansas City, Kan., Trevor Scott (Jennifer) McBride of Four Seasons, Mo., Katie Rhae (Jim) Grayling of Beckemeyer, Ill., Mary Rose McIntyre and her fiancé, Ryan Wisnasky of Bartelso, Ill., Elizabeth (Travis) McGruder of Blue Springs, Mo., and Brittany Harrell of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Rhuey (Jesse) Bennett of Rossville; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Gemand of Rossville. Her parents, one brother and one sister preceded her in death.
Mrs. McBride taught fifth grade at Lincoln and John Greer Schools in Hoopeston for 25 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of
the Rossville United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Rossville Historical Society and the Barbara Standish Chapter of DAR in Hoopeston. She enjoyed genealogy, painting and playing cards.
A memorial service for Mrs. McBride will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at the Rossville United Methodist Church, 116 Maple St. in Rossville. The Rev. Clayton Coffey will officiate. There will be no visitation. The Brown-Alkire Funeral Home in Hoopeston is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the Mary Rhae McBride Book Fund at the Bank of Rossville, 111 N. Chicago St., Rossville, IL 60963.
