COVINGTON, Ind. — Ruth N. Shideler, 101, of Covington, passed away at 1:03 p.m. EDT Thursday, May 16, 2014, at The Waters of Covington.
She was born on Jan. 9, 1913, in Marshall County, Ind., the daughter of Jacob and Belle Sutton Hushaw.
She married Wayne Shideler on Aug. 26, 1932, in Veedersburg, Ind. He preceded her in death in May of 1966.
She is survived by a son, Robert W. (Barbara) Shideler of Danville; a daughter, Susan K. (Larry) Adams of Veedersburg, Ind.; six grandchildren, Dr. R. Mark (Rhonda) Shideler, Dr. David W. (Tina) Shideler, Neal Duncan, Jason Duncan, Derek (Tracy) Adams and Dr. Laryn Adams; and four great-grandchildren, Samuel Shideler, Caedmon Shideler, Sarah Jane Shideler and Logan Duncan.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Harry and Donald Hushaw; and an infant daughter, Donna Sue Shideler.
Ruth was a graduate of Attica High School and worked as a clerk in the farm subsidies division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture until her retirement in 1975. Ruth also was a longtime member of Sterling Christian Church, the Covington Book Lover’s Club and was a past member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to play cards, especially euchre, but also enjoyed needlepoint and knitting.
A visitation for Ruth N. Shideler will be 1:30-2:30 EDT Sunday, May 18, at Sunset’s Covington Chapel, A Life Celebration Home, in Covington, Ind. Burial will take place at Rockfield Cemetery in Veedersburg. Private services will be held with the family. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
