ROSSVILLE — Darla Glenedith Mikels, 70, of Rossville, passed away at 1:32 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, near the Republic of Panama while vacationing with her husband.
She was born June 15, 1943, in Sycamore, the daughter of Otis Darrell and Delores Esther (Mason) Pepple.
She married Kenneth Wayne Mikels on April 7, 1963, at Antioch Church of Christ in rural Rossville. He survives in Rossville.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda K. Cooper of Greer, S.C., and Laurie A. (Steve) Beach of Greenwood, Ind.; one son, Kenneth W. Mikels Jr. of Lewisville, Texas; one sister, Ann (David) Trent of Herscher; one brother, Darrell (Karen) Pepple of Elmhurst; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Darla worked at the Vermilion County U.S.D.A. office for 26 years. She was an active member of Rossville Church of Christ. Her hobbies included knitting, reading and studying genealogy and ancestry. Most of all, Darla enjoyed traveling with her husband and family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
A visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 12, at Rossville Church of Christ, 514 E. Attica St., Rossville, with Pastor Kevin Purdy officiating. Burial will be in the Rossville Cemetery.
