Sorry for the lateness of this, but we have been waiting on the VA to let us know about the resting location of my father-in-law. There will be no head stone for him; therefore, this will be our remembrance.
Joe E. Evans was free from his earthly pain in the midst of his military comrades at the Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at 9:15 p.m.
Now he is able to watch over us in peace. Joe was a believer that family was in your heart, not just a title.
Of the many, here are a few that came to see him in his last days: Skeeter, Rochelle, Tressa and family, Brenda, and Tim and Debbie. Some of his immediate family included ex-wife, Sue Evans; JJ and Lynette Evans and their children Teddy and Anna; Terry and Ashley Evans and their children Alexander and Chase; sister, Lois Dickenson of Alvin; and sister Mae Herron of Potomac.
Throughout his childhood and military service in the Army, Joe developed a harsh outer shell. However, his family shared stories of how he pulled perfect strangers off the street to house, feed and clothe them. Giving his materialistic possessions to others in their time of need is a virtue of compassion that many people will never know or experience.
The cancer took him from us, but we will always have our precious memories. Love and miss ya.
