Marigene R. Hutton, 90, of Danville and formerly of Potomac and Hoopeston, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at North Logan Health Care Center, two blocks from where she was born and raised.
Preceding Marigene in death was her husband of 62 years, Lawrence Gordon Hutton; her son, Anthony; her parents, Earl Edward Rumbaugh and Jenny McAllister; stepmother Cornelia; and sisters Anna Jane Catlett and Marjorie Carter.
Marigene is survived by her brothers, Earl Edward Rumbaugh Jr. and Glenn D. Covert; daughter, Jennifer Hutton Cothern Ideker; grandchildren, Shayne Cothern and Alia Sherwood; great-grandchildren, Sawyer Cothern, Elaun Sherwood and Chance Sherwood; and much-loved foster sons, Don Young, Mike Young and Irven Young.
Marigene was born on May 28, 1923, in Danville to Earl Edward and Jennie (McAlister) Rumbaugh Sr.
She attended Danville High School and graduated at the top of her class in Hoopeston. She was a statistical statistician at Chanute AFB, then obtained her master’s degree in college and taught grade school in the Danville area. She attended the Methodist and Christian churches. She enjoyed the Barnabas Group and the Red Hat Society. Her favorite pastimes were reading, doing crosswords and working outside in the garden.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville with Marcy Clements officiating the funeral, and Pastor Raymie Gordon officiating the graveside. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Thursday at Pape’s. Burial will be at Mann’s Chapel near Rossville beside her beloved husband and son.
