Gladys Maurine Roodhouse Boyer, 98, of Danville, and formerly of Jacksonville and Decatur, died Monday, April 28, 2014, at Carle hospital in Urbana.
She was born May 30, 1915, in Pearl, the daughter of Ben O. Sr. and Vera Meisenbach Roodhouse.
She married John R. Boyer on June 16, 1956, in Jacksonville. He preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 1976.
She is survived by a stepson, William D. Boyer (wife, Marla) of The Villages, Fla.; two nephews, John C. Alexander (wife, Connie) of Danville and Stephen L. Roodhouse (wife, Erica) of Cincinnati, Ohio; two nieces, Sherry Black (husband, Toby) of Ferndale, Wash., and Julia Alexander (husband, Jerry Seelig) of Culver City, Calif.; several step grandchildren; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda C. Alexander; two brothers, Ben O. Roodhouse Jr. and, in infancy, Henry Lee Roodhouse; a stepdaughter, Bobette Warrick; a stepson, John W. Boyer (surviving wife, Rose Marie Taylor of Indio, Calif.); and a niece, Pamela Zanetti.
Mrs. Boyer was a 1937 graduate of MacMurray College in Jacksonville and served as an elementary teacher in Jacksonville, Walnut and Decatur public schools. She was a former member of Central Christian Church in Jacksonville and more recently, a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Decatur.
Following cremation, a luncheon and memorial service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Vermilion Place, 14 N. Hazel Street, Danville. Graveside committal services will be noon Monday at Fernwood Cemetery in Roodhouse.
