WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. —
Russell L. Southard, age 82, of Indianapolis, formerly of Williamsport, died at 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at his residence.
Russell was born on July 27, 1930, in Hillsdale, Ind., and was the son of Roy and Myrtle (Davies) Southard. He graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1948.
On Jan. 24, 1953, he married Mary E. McCray in Cayuga, Ind., and she survives.
Russell served in the 3rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He graduated from South Eastern Signal School in Ft. Gordon, Ga., and resided in Williamsport since 1958.
Russell was a member of the Williamsport Christian Church where he was past chairman of the board and was very active in the affairs of the church. He was past president of the WCEA. Russell was a past board member of the Indiana Christian Children’s Home in Ladoga, Ind., and chairman of the Warren County American Cancer Society. He had worked at the Williamsport Community Hospital.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Lynn Scheurich (husband: James) of Williamsport, Ind., Melinda Gail Stinnett (husband: Randy) of Indianapolis; one son, Richard Lee Southard (wife: Wendi) of Williamsport; one sister, Betty Rodriguez of Danville; three grandsons; two great-grandchildren.
Russell was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be at Williamsport Christian Church on Friday, April 26, from 2 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Don Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, with full military honors.
