Robert L. “Bob” Clem

HOOPESTON — Robert L. “Bob” Clem, 81, of Hoopeston, passed away at 11:38 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Born Jan. 25, 1932, at Hoopeston, he was the son of Marshall E. Clem and Pearl Y. (McCalla) DeBord.

He married Edna “Peg” Kelley on Nov. 1, 1956, at Hoopeston. She survives.

Also surviving are four children, Merridy Lanzy of Rantoul, Missy (Jerry Prosise) Lawson of Hoopeston, Dr. Kelley Clem (Nicole Leenders) of Columbus, Ohio, and Megan (Jim) Collins of Danville; nine grandchildren, Somone (Scott) Oliver, McKenzie (Larry) Baughn, Taylor, Emily, Whitney, Brandon, Joren, Noah and Lexi; and one great-grandchild, Tinlee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Oriskany during the Korean War.

Bob had worked in the customer service department at FMC Corp. in Hoopeston for 34 years. He also had worked at Larson’s Clothing Store in Hoopeston for 32 years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hoopeston where he had served as an elder and church treasurer for 23 years. He was a member of Hoopeston American Legion Post 384. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards (especially euchre) and walking. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Memorial services for Mr. Clem will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at First Presbyterian Church, 915 E. Orange St. in Hoopeston. The Rev. Wade Meranda will officiate. Burial, with military rites accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion & VFW Color Guard, will be held at the Floral Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Hoopeston or to the Hoopeston American Legion.

The Brown-Alkire Funeral Home in Hoopeston is in charge of the arrangements.
