SARASOTA, Fla. —
Pauline O. Shaver, 89, a resident of the Pines of Sarasota, Fla., and a longtime Danville resident, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013, in Sarasota.
Mrs. Shaver was born Pauline Overton to Richard Cecil Overton and Clarice Hunter Overton on Jan. 19, 1924, in Madisonville, Ky.
As a young child, she moved to Chicago with her parents, her brother, Charles, and her sister, Catherine.
Later the family moved to Danville, where Mrs. Shaver attended and graduated from Danville High School. She later attended secretarial school here.
During World War II, she met her future husband, Robert J. Shaver, of Syracuse, N.Y., at a USO dance. The couple was married shortly after the war ended, and they settled in Danville where Mr. Shaver was a longtime employee of this newspaper. They had two children, David J Shaver of Sarasota, Fla., and Greg P. Shaver of Centralia.
Mrs. Shaver worked as the school secretary for the former St. Patrick’s School in Danville for 25 years. She was well-known and active in parish activities, and she attended daily Mass for many years. She also was a regular volunteer at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center.
Prior to moving to Sarasota in 2011, Mrs. Shaver was an independent living resident of Liberty Estates in Danville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and both siblings. She is survived by her two sons, five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Church, followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in her memory to Holy Family Church.
