VEEDERSBURG, Ind. — Esther D. Thomas, 93, of Veedersburg, passed away at 2:33 p.m. EDT Thursday, July 18, 2013, at The Waters Nursing Home in Covington, Ind.

Mrs. Thomas was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Fountain County, Ind., the daughter of Alvin and Vivian (Long) Ratcliff.

She married her husband of nearly 60 years, John (Bill) Thomas Aug. 10, 1946, at Centennial Church near Kingman. He preceded her in death Nov. 12, 2005.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters, a nephew and a niece.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her nephews, Joe (Peggy) Swinford, Pekin, Phil’s widow, Aileene Swinford, Sidell, John (Karen) Clingan, Danville, Jim (Margart) Clingan, St. Joe, Bill (Ann) Ratcliff, Bruce (Arleta) Breeden, Carmel, Ind., and Tom (Sue) Breeden, Plymouth, Ind.; nieces, Nola’s widower, Veit Gustin, Sidell, Claudine (John) Boen, Oakwood, Ann (Don) Knee, West Lafayette, Ind., Mary (Richard) Shaffer, Bridgman, Mich., Valerie (Mark) Wood, Indianapolis, and Marjorie (Charlie) Harlan, Brownsburg, Ind.; and special friends, Howard and Mildred Kunkle of Veedersburg.

Esther graduated from Kingman High School in 1937 and attended business college in Terre Haute, Ind. She and her husband had farmed for many years in the Kingman, Ind., area and moved to Veedersburg upon their retirement.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Veedersburg. Esther was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, reading and collecting antiques.

Esther’s family wishes to thank Howard and Mildred Kunkle for the compassionate and loving care they provided for Aunt Esther for many years.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. EDT Wednesday, July 24, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg, Ind., with Kenneth Majors officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. EDT Wednesday and continue until time of service. Burial at: Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to First Christian Church, Veedersburg.
