POWAY, Calif. – Paul Alexander Samaras, 64, of Poway, Calif., formerly of Hoopeston, died unexpectedly on July 21, 2013, at his home.
Paul was born on Jan. 17, 1949, in Galesburg to Alexander and Carolyn Samaras.
He married Anne Ledford on June 10, 1978, in San Diego, Calif. She survives him.
Also surviving are his parents, Alexander and Carolyn Samaras of Danville; one son, Alexander Samaras of Boston, Mass.; one daughter, Carolyn (Mike) Austin of Fort Collins, Colo.; one granddaughter, Zoe Austin of Fort Collins, Colo.; two brothers, David Samaras of Springfield and Mark Samaras of Waverly; one sister, Nancy (Tom) Fahey of Danville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Paul graduated from Elkhorn High School in Elkhorn Wis., in 1967. He attended Beloit College for two years and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1972. He received his master’s degree from Wichita State University. He taught at Mt. Carmel High School in Poway, Calif., for over 30 years and coached track. After retiring, Paul enjoyed spending time with his family and his horses, cheering for the Kansas Jayhawks and substitute teaching.
Per his wishes, Paul was cremated, and a celebration of his life was held on July 26 at Old Poway Park in Poway, Calif.
