DANVILLE — Dennis Hamer, 53, of Danville, passed away at 1:34 a.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center Emergency Room, Danville.

Dennis was born July 23, 1959, in Danville to Jack Earl and Mary Ruth Gummere Hamer.

He married Sandra S. Nixon on May 23, 1992, in Danville. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Mary Ruth Rodgers of Danville; two brothers, John (Ramona) Hamer of Savoy and David (Darla) Hamer of Danville; four sisters, Marilyn Huerta of Danville, Margaret (David) Donovan of Muncie, Ind., Nancy (Ora) Wilburn of Danville and Jackie (Joe “Bo”) Bell of Danville; one brother-in-law, Archie (Dana) Nixon of Danville; three sisters-in-law, Donna (Brett) Little of Danville, Diane (Ed Pate) Nixon of Tilton and Roberta (Jason) Renfrow of Oakwood; and his beloved four-legged children, Mr. Grey, Buddy, Eli and Mizell.

He was preceded in death by his father; two sisters, Pam Hamer and Carolyn Sue Burnett; and his beloved pets, Raven, Spike, Tatum and Mitzi.

Dennis served in the U.S. Navy from 1977-1985. He was a line machine mechanic for KIK for 11 years. He enjoyed trap shooting at the Westville Sportsmen’s Club, where he was a member and loved to torment his fellow members. He loved getting on Facebook and chatting with his friends. He was an avid reader. He enjoyed playing blitz at his brother-in-law’s with his family and loved fishing.

Funeral services: 11 a.m. Friday, April 12, at the Cornerstone Christian Church in Danville, with Pastor Kevin Cox officiating. Burial in: Sunset Cemetery, Danville. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to: CARA or donations to the family for a memorial bench at Sunset cemetery for his loved ones to visit.
