Franklin D. Hoskins

DANVILLE — Franklin D. Hoskins, 79, of Danville, died at 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, April 8, at Pape Memorial Home, 10 E. Williams, with Pastor Josh Beutow officiating. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 7. Burial will be in Danville National Cemetery, with military honors by the Marine Corps League and the Korean War Veterans.

Frank was born on Jan. 30, 1934, in Danville, to Marion and Fern (Wonacott) Hoskins.

He attended Danville schools before enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1953. He served in the Korean War before being honorably discharged in 1956.

Frank worked at General Motors as a mollet machine operator and later at R&S Printing for nearly 40 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 210, Danville VFW, Korean War Veterans, the Marine Corps League and a longtime member of Central Christian Church, though more recently he attended Central Park Church of Christ.

Frank enjoyed fishing, camping, watching ball games, the Cubs and being with his grandchildren. He was a coach and umpire for over 30 years. Frank never met a stranger, was a caretaker and provider for anyone in need, and his passion was his family and friends.

Frank married Waneta Carpenter on April 2, 1955, and they had four children together before she passed away in 2003. He married Vivian Packard in March of 2005, and she survives.

Also surviving are four children, Frank (Alice O’Neil) Hoskins, Wanda (Michael) West, Penny (Paul) Hill and Teresa (Gary) Wright; a stepdaughter, Janet (Ray) Miller; a stepson, Steven Packard; three sisters, Joan (Bill) Hardesty, Viola Seebode and Fernetta Bell; eight grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, who always called him “Grandpa Great”; and one step great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first spouse, Waneta; two brothers, Everett and Marion; a sister, Donna Osborn; and a stepdaughter, Julie Drake.

To all of Frank’s fellow Marines, “Semper Fi.”
