Arnold Gene Ward, 75, of Catlin, passed away at 2:22 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home.
Gene was born Dec. 18, 1937, in Hillary, to Preston B. and Helen Warquier Ward. He married Judy Huffman on Oct. 14, 1962, at Catlin Church of Christ, and they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. She survives.
Survivors include his daughter, Teresa (Barry) Nielsen of Arlington Heights, and his son, Timothy Ward of Bridgeview; five grandsons, Erik and Aaron Nielson of Arlington Heights, Alec Ward of Arlington Heights, Zach Ward of Griffith, Ind., and Matt Ward of Bridgeview; two great-granddaughters; and a special cousin, Judy Pinkowski, along with other cousins. He has a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Sherry Huffman, and a sister-in-law, Barb Huffman, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry; and a special brother-in-law, Curt Huffman.
Gene graduated from Oakwood High School and enlisted in the Army. He then received training in airline mechanics. He worked at United Airlines at O’Hare Field for 35 years before his retirement. Gene was a member of the Vermilion County R.C. Club and enjoyed anything to do with model airplanes, especially flying remote-controlled airplanes. He collected coins and enjoyed playing golf. He was a member of the Catlin Lions Club and the Catlin Church of Christ.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Catlin Church of Christ, 715 W. Vermilion St. with Darren Johnson and Brian Durbin officiating. Burial in Sandusky Cemetery, Westville. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Catlin Church of Christ.
