COVINGTON, Ind. —
Walter “Dick” E. Ping, 83, of Covington, passed away at 5 p.m. EDT Sunday, April 28, 2013, at St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital.
He was born March 22, 1930, in Fountain County, Indiana, the son of the late Ralph and Lucille Davis Ping.
Survivors include his children, Penny (Greg) Gayler of Darlington, Ind., Debby (Scott) Hathaway of Kingman, Ind., and Robert (Eva) Douglas of Lafayette, Ind.; three grandchildren, Brittany Burns, Nicole Hathaway and Bryant Hathaway; three great-grandchildren, Noah, Paige and Addison Burns; three sisters, Carolyn (Don) Ridge of Rosedale, Ind., Joanne Cook of Danville, Ill., and Jane Allen of Covington; one brother, Darrel (Liz) Ping of Williamsport, Ind.; three aunts, Doris, Laurabelle and Fauneil; and several nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
Dick retired from Olin/Flexel in Covington. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the United States Army. He was avid about mushrooming and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Funeral services: 2 p.m. EDT Saturday, May 4, at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Ind., with the Rev. Ken Pavlick officiating. Burial: Coal Creek Cemetery south of Covington. Visitation: 1 p.m. EDT Saturday, May 4, 2013, until time of services at the funeral home.
