James ‘Jimmy’ Estle Hardwick

HOOPESTON — James “Jimmy” Estle Hardwick, 72, of Hoopeston, died at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at Hoopeston Community Memorial Nursing Home in Hoopeston.

He was born May 1, 1939, in Hoopeston, to Joe Sam Hardwick and Mary “Maggie” (Burton) Hardwick. He married Nancie L. (Ingram) Hardwick Aug. 24, 1965, in Danville. She survives in Hoopeston.

Other survivors include daughters, Betty (Steve) Comstock of Hoopeston and Anita (Ty) Meyer of Staunton, Ind.; sons, Edward (Robin) Sanford of Rantoul, William “Bill” Sanford of Hoopeston and Carl (Marla) Sanford of Hoopeston; sister, Carmen Bilyeu of Hoopeston; brothers, George Quinn of Seattle, Wash., and Virgil Quinn of Danville. James is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters.

James worked as an inspector for General Motors in Tilton for many years. He served in the United States Army National Guard. Jim attended the Assembly of God and later the First Church of God in Hoopeston. He was very active in the Royal Rangers, a worldwide ministry of the Assemblies of God, designed with a camping theme for boys and girls. Jim enjoyed working with youth — he coached Little League baseball for many years. He also enjoyed horseshoe pitching, bowling and singing gospel music.

Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at First Church of God, 1004 E. Orange St., Hoopeston. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at First Church of God, Pastor Micah Mobley and Pastor Anita Livengood officiating. Burial: Floral Hill Cemetery, Hoopeston.
