TILTON — Ariel Ella McDaniel, 97, of Tilton, passed away at 8:28 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.
Funeral service will begin at noon Monday, July 14, at Pape Family Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville, with Ramona Logan officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Monday at Pape’s. Memorials may be made to United Church of Tilton. Burial will be at Danville National Cemetery.
Ella was born Aug. 28, 1916, to the late Otho Wilbur and Mattie Grace (Helt) McCauley in Logan. She attended Sugar Grove Grade School and High School in St. Bernice, Ind.
Ella married Chancy Commodore McDaniel on Oct. 29, 1945, in Jacksonville, Ind. He preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 1979. They enjoyed 33 years of marriage together. Together they won many bird dog competitions and have a room full of trophies to show for it.
Ella was a member of United Church of Christ in Tilton. She also was a member of many euchre clubs in town. In her spare time, Ella enjoyed being active in her church and watching the Chicago Cubs. Ella was a lifelong Cubs fan.
Ella is survived by her two nieces, Margaret Stout and Grace Marie Davidson, both of Danville; one nephew, Ray (Laurie) Downing of Danville; and two great-nephews, Steven Downing of Urbana and William Downing of Danville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Chancy; her brother, Foster McCauley; sister, Edith Davidson; and twin sister, Elva J. Downing.
Ella will be missed dearly by her family.
