GEORGETOWN, Texas — Donald Neal Underwood, lovingly known to most as “Neal,” 70, of Georgetown, Texas, passed on to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 29, 2014, after a three-and-a-half-year courageous battle with cancer.
A memorial service of celebration and thanksgiving will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 311 E. University Ave., Georgetown, Texas. Another service will be held later in Illinois.
Neal was born Feb. 21, 1944, in Danville to the late William Cleatis and Juanita Jewell Plotner Underwood.
Neal was raised in Fairmount and graduated from Jamaica High School in 1962. He went on to attend Eastern Illinois University, majoring in music; he was part of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.
In April of 1965, he married Sharon Jean Bray.
They had two sons, Donald William, born Jan. 27, 1966, and William Christopher, born Aug. 1, 1971. They divorced in 1973 after eight years of marriage.
Neal married the love of his life, Nicolette Carras, in Danville; they were married on July 31, 1976. Neal and Nikki moved to the Austin area in 1981. He worked for many years in sales and purchasing but never let his true love for music get too far out of his life. Neal was a very talented musician and played many different instruments. Working around the house on his many projects kept Neal happy and active.
Neal and Nikki were active members at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Georgetown for many years. Neal enjoyed singing in the choir and taking part in numerous other church activities. While attending First United Methodist Church in Round Rock, Texas, his love of music and talent for playing brought Neal together with other musicians from the church and a band called the “StepSons” was born in 1989. Together the band entertained folks over the years in many different venues, playing gospel and folk music.
