Mary Frances Brown, 89, of Hoopeston, passed away at 5:35 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, at her daughter’s home in rural East Lynn.
She was born May 21, 1925, in Findlay, Ill., the daughter of Edward and Minnie (Cook) Bird.
She married Franklin Brown on Aug. 19, 1943, in Los Angeles, Calif. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy (Bruce) McQuigg of East Lynn; one son, Frank (Nancy) Brown of Hoopeston; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one niece, Barbara Bird Hunt.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Glen and Harold Bird.
Mary Frances enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She worked a few part-time jobs, which included babysitting the Mann children for 18 years; working at the village office in Rossville and working with Molly Culbert as seasonal help at her greenhouse in Rossville, where she helped plant seedlings and bulbs.
Mary Frances was a member of Antioch Church of Christ in rural Rossville, but frequently attended her daughter and son-in-law’s church New Beginnings of Hoopeston. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Mary Frances will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Per her wishes she will be cremated. A memorial service will begin at noon Saturday July 5, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston, with Rev. Earl Eells officiating and Pastor Bruce McQuigg assisting. A visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon prior to the memorial service at Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery in Rossville.
