Robert Darrell Mingee, 73, of Tilton, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, surrounded by his family.
Darrell was born Nov. 1, 1940, the son of Robert E. and Madeline (Acord) Mingee in Danville.
He married Joyce Goble. They had two daughters, Tracy (Jeff) Wolfe and Rhonda Crippin, both of Danville. Later Darrell married Sara Potter. They had one son, Russell (Sheila) Mingee of Georgetown.
Also surviving Darrell is one brother, Melvin (Renee) Mingee; two sisters, Sharon Thompson and Vicki (Russell) McLain; eight grandchildren, Joshua (Sydnee) Mingee, Brittni (Brandon) O’Hair, Tristyn and Kaden Mingee, T.J. (Courtney) George, Richard (Bonnie) Marrow, Kevin (Angie) Mahoney and Katie Jo Crippin; 17 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Frank Hamilton, Bill Branham, Sue Stine, Peg Dempsey, John Novic and Richard and Sandy Lyons.
Darrell loved to golf and play euchre. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s fan. Darrell could often be found throughout the seasons enjoying hunting, fishing and mushrooming.
He worked at General Motors as a millwright for 32 years, but has enjoyed retirement over the past 20 years. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.

A Celebration of Darrell’s Life will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 3, with Pastor Keith Warner of Cayuga Christian Church officiating at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home, in Danville. A visitation for Robert will be held 2-6 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made in Darrell’s name to Sons of the American Legion Catlin or Harrison Park Golf Course.
