Minnie Joan Lewis, 73, of Danville, passed away Monday, June 16, 2014, at 9:25 a.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at Pape Family Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville. Pastor Paul Delvalley will be officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, June 19, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. at Pape’s. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Danville.
Minnie was born July 10, 1940, in Blount Township to Charles Edmund and Mildred Leona (Marrow) Lovett. She attended Henning Schools and Danville Area Community College. Minnie was a LPN at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and Provena USMC, both in Danville. She retired in December 2002 after 27 years of nursing.
Minnie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tilton. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Minnie enjoyed traveling and fishing. During tax season, she would also help out her friends and family by preparing their taxes. She enjoyed helping people in any way she could. She enjoyed watching Fox News and had a very strong political stance on many issues. Minnie also enjoyed playing softball very much in her youth. What she loved most though was her family. Every Sunday, the family would gather and have a Sunday dinner. She loved cooking and having everyone together for a good time. Anyone who came over was considered family. She considered all people she encountered her friend.
Minnie married Carl “Grandpa” Lewis on Nov. 22, 1958, in Georgetown. He preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 1995. She is survived by her four children, Becky (James) Newberry of Danville, Cindy (John Janis) Largent, Brenda (John) Largent and John (Betty) Lewis, all of Westville; nine grandchildren, Megan (Kenny) Biller, Zackary (Nate) Newberry, Mandy (Chad) Alvarez, Robin Largent, Carl Largent, Christina (Andrew) Neuman, Brittany (Michael) Largent, Shannon (J.R.) Jumps and Lachrisha (Jeremy) Carrigan; one sister, Joyce (James) Edwards of Georgetown; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
